    •    "There are many parents among us who tend to export their minor children as Harraga (illegal emigrants), it is absolutely deplorable," said Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for national community abroad, who was interviewed in duplexes from Berlin.
    •    "Imitating the practices of neighboring countries, parents are trying to exploit the goodwill of countries’ laws for minors who are cared with, said Benatallah. And then they launch their children in boats.
    •    Once on the shores of Europe, they are supported by organizations including Algerian women, he said. And when these latter contact the parents in Algeria, "they refuse to take them back."
    •    "They prefer their children to stay there and ultimately, they cut the telephone communication," said Mr. Benatallah.
    •    The senior was unable to provide figures "but cases began to multiply and it begins to challenge our community there," he said, calling the parents of "irresponsible".
    •    On 19 January the Secretary of State had provided general figures for Spain, indicating that more than 1,400 illegal Algerians were deported from this country in 2010.
    •    He did not cite figures for those who can not reach safely and drown.
    •    If arrested from Algeria, candidates for illegal emigration are punishable by six months in prison under a law passed in 2009 that punishes traffickers to prison terms of up to 20 years detention.
