Two suspects in the abduction of Europeans arrested

    • According to the Arabic daily, the security services have arrested two people suspected of providing information to terrorists, authors of the abduction of three Europeans; two Spanish and an Italian, members of an NGO, which occurred on October 23 in Hassi Rabouni, south of Algeria
    • Since then, the three hostages are, according to a mediator, alive and held by the terrorist organization al Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), led by Abu Zeid.
    • The two suspects were arrested separately, one at a police checkpoint between Menea and Ain Salah and the second during a security operation in Tindouf.
    • These have provided accurate information on the activities and how to do of the cell responsible for the kidnappings.
    • In addition, and according to the same source, the leader of the terrorist organization AQIM, Abdelhamid Abou Zeid, would has created three cells specialized in kidnapping of foreigners.
    • AQIM has not claimed responsibility for these kidnappings and holds four French nationals of the French group Areva, abducted in Arlit in northern Niger September 15, 2010.
