Mr. Jomaa will hold talks with his Algerian counterpart Abdelmalek Sellal and will be accompanied by "a high-level government delegation and senior security and military officials," according to a statement from his office.

The visit of a few hours will be devoted to "strengthening cooperation and coordination in the security and military fields between the two countries," it said.

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika said on Friday that his country would stand Tunisia "to destroy the dangerous scourge" of terrorism.

The attack of Wednesday night on Mount Chaambi, near the Algerian border, is the worst in the history of the Tunisian army.

According to the Tunisian Defence Minister, Ghazi Jeribi, "the majority of terrorists infiltrated from outside Mount Chaambi, probably outside the borders", namely from Algeria.

Among them were Tunisians, Algerians and "foreign mercenaries," he said, adding that Tunisia and Algeria cooperate to track down the assailants.
