Saadi Gaddafi, 42, is on trial for his alleged involvement in the bloody suppression of the revolt that ended the regime of his father in 2011 and in 2005 for the murder of a former coach of Al-Ittihad football club in Tripoli.
Dressed in the usual prisoners’ blue overalls, Saadi Gaddafi was present at the hearing held in the judicial complex of al-Hadba al-Khadra, in Tripoli where also the prison where he has been held since his extradition from Niger in March 2014.
In August, a video has been circulating on social networks showing Saadi Gaddafi suffering abuse from his captors and Human Rights Watch (HRW) had requested an investigation.
The prison where he is held is controlled by Fajr Libya, a coalition of militias that took control of the Libyan capital Tripoli in August 2014 and has established a government and a parliament that are not recognized by the international community.
Of the seven son of Gaddafi, three died during the revolution, as well as their father, killed by rebels in October 2011.
