%40 drop in cereals, January 2016

The cereals imports bill (wheat, corn) dropped by USD 200.4 million in January 2016 against USD 327.64 million in January 2015.

This drop has affected imported quantities (except for soft wheat), at a slower pace, i.e. 946.671 tons (t) against 1.13 tons, i.e. a decrease of 16.04%, the Customs’ National Council of Information and Statistics (Cnis).   

The wheat imports bill (wheat and durum), which represented almost 67.23% of the cereals imports cost in last January, decreased to USD 134.74 million against USD 232.76 million (-42,11), for quantities that reached 584.973 tons against 694.802 tons (-15.81%).

The durum wheat imports decreased to USD 103.13 million against USD 113.92 million (-9,48%).

The same source continues, the soft wheat has represented more than half of cereals imports and more than 75% of wheat imports in last January.  

As for imported wheat quantities, they increased to 506.224 tons against 441.534 tons (+14.65 %).

Regarding durum wheat, the imports bill decreased to USD 31.61 million against USD 118.83 million (-73,4 %) for a quantity estimated at 78.750 tons against 253.268 tons (-69%).
