"I just came back from Syria and I seize this opportunity to discuss with Lamamra ICRC’s efforts to extend our operational area in this conflict that affects a civil population in Syria and concerns us." The same official continues.
Lamamra, of his part said that Algeria’s relations with humanitarian bodies "draws from history, culture and commitment, symbolized by Emir Abdelkader, who is one of the pioneers of the humanitarian action."
He also recalled that Algeria, which experienced a liberation war, had adhered to the Geneva Convention, "a first precondition in terms of international law."
