ALGIERS- Algeria has handed over to French justice samples from the skulls of the monks of Tibhirine, assassinated in 1996 by terrorists, said Friday several French media.
"A French judge could bring from Algeria samples on the skulls of the monks of Tibhirine. These elements could advance the investigation into the kidnapping and murder of the monks in 1996," wrote RFI on its website.
The French judge instruction Nathalie Poux, who paid a visit to Algeria this week, was able to repatriate samples on skulls of the monks which had been performed in October 2014 at their exhumation in the presence of French judges and experts.
These samples had not been taken to France at the time, which led relatives of the monks to denounce a "confiscation of evidence" and an "obstruction" to the French investigation.
According to RFI, the French judges have in their turn handed their Algerian counterparts, DNA samples of families of the monks, for their own investigation.
