Messahel holds talks with Antonio Guterres

The meeting focused on cooperation between Algeria and the United Nations, as well as other important issues on the agenda of the UN, including the situation in Western Sahara, Mali and Libya.

As regards Western Sahara’s cause, Minister Messahel recalled that this issue was part of the process of decolonization for which the United Nations assumed responsibility under Resolution 1514.

Regarding the situation in Mali, Messahel told his interlocutor that Algeria will continue its efforts to bring the Malian brothers to the path of dialogue to overcome their differences and engage in the implementation of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali. At the same time, he called for greater UN involvement to hasten a definitive exit from the crisis in Mali.

Concerning the situation in Libya, Messahel reiterated Algeria’s support for the new UN roadmap for the resolution of the crisis in Libya, presented by Special Representative Ghassane Salame.

Antonio Guterres, for his part, expressed his satisfaction with the exemplary cooperation between Algeria and the United Nations.
