ALGIERS- The 2021 edition of the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (Fespaco), the main African festival of the 7th art, initially scheduled from February 27 to March 6, will be held from October 16 to 23, the Burkinabe authorities announced on Wednesday.
Announcing the new dates for the holding of the 27th edition of this great African cinematographic event, representatives of the Burkinabé government affirmed that “the health protocols” would be respected during the festival”.
The number of guests has been reduced, by prevention, to 150 personalities, nearly five times less than the last edition, and the opening ceremony would take place at the Palais des Sports “Sports palace” in Ouagadougou (5,000 seats) instead of the Joseph-Conombo Municipal Stadium (25,000 seats).
“900 films from 28 countries, including 71 films from Burkina Faso”, will be on the menu of this cultural rendez-vous, while an envelope of up to 3 million euros are needed for the organization of this festival, themed, “Cinema of Africa and the diaspora: new talents, new challenges ”, with Senegal as the guest of honor.
Fespaco, considered to be one of the rare events contributing to the global influence of Faso and the main cinema event in Africa, has brought together tens of thousands of spectators and practitioners of the 7th Art every two years in Ouagadougou since 1969.
