The province of Batna was shaken by the death of an eleven (11 months) baby after being infected with the Coronavirus (Covid 19). As such, this infant was admitted, a few days ago, in intensive care in a hospital in Batna.
To this end, guest of Ennahar television channel, the Director General of the Pasteur Institute of Algeria, Dr. Fawzi Derrar, provided details on this case, the first of its kind in Algeria.
In this vein, he explained that an investigation was underway to determine the exact circumstances of the death of an infant who suffered from pneumonia upon his admission to the pediatric department of Batna University Hospital (CHU).
“Upon admission, the infant suffered from pneumonia. After an x-ray, they found that 75 percent of his lungs were affected by the Covid-19, to be confirmed, later, by a PCR test;” he pointed out.
“According to the initial elements of the investigation, the baby died of Coronavirus, However, we should wait for the final report of the investigation, due in the coming days,” added Dr. Derrar.
