ALGIERS- The President of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) Amara Charaf-Eddine, swept away the rumors of a relocation of the CHAN-2023 African Nations Championship, reserved for local players.
The president of the FAF affirmed, in this regard, that “The CHAN will indeed take place in Algeria in 2023. It is a communication error on the Ivorian side”, indicated to APS the first person in charge of the body.
The Ivorian government, indicated in a press release published Wednesday evening on its official website, that CHAN 2023 will be played in Côte d’Ivoire, while the competition was awarded to Algeria in September 2018.
The government statement was released following a visit by a mission from the African Confederation (CAF); led by its secretary general Mosengo-Omba Veron; to inspect the progress of work ahead of the 34th African Cup of Nations CAN-2023 (June 23 – July 23).
CHAN-2022, a competition reserved for players playing in national championships will be held from January 8 to 31, after being rescheduled for the year 2023 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Awarded to Algeria in September 2018; the 7th edition of CHAN will be played in four stadiums: 5-July-1962 in Algiers; the Olympic stadium in Oran; May 19, 1956 from Annaba. And the Chahid-Hamlaoui of Constantine.
