ALGIERS- A 5.1 magnitude earthquake hit, on Sunday at 8:17 p.m. local time (19:17 GMT), the province of Oran, the Centre for Research in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics (CRAAG) said in a statement.
The earthquake was felt at 8:17 p.m. local time (19:17 GMT), while its epicenter was located 12 km north of Gdyel (wilaya of Oran), according to the same source.
The earthquake was followed by a 3.2-magnitude afterquake whose epicenter was located 20 km north of Gdyel.
Oran’s civil protection directorate said, in a statement, that teams immediately carried out a thorough reconnaissance operation and found cracks in some homes in the town of Arzew.
No casualties have been recorded so far….
