ALGIERS- The Court of Algiers, on Wednesday, sentenced, to 4 years in prison, the former Minister of Housing, Abdelwahid Temmar, prosecuted in corruption cases, in particular for squandering of public funds and falsification of official documents, when he was wali of Mostaganem.
The sentences handed down, at first instance by the Economic and Financial Penal Pole of the Tribunal of Sidi M’hamed (Algiers) against businessman Tarek Kouninef, Fares Sellal (son of former Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal) and Abdelmalek Sahraoui, were reduced from 3 to 2 years in prison.
The first instance verdict acquitting the former Director General (DG) of the “Sahel” State residence, Hamid Melzi, has been confirmed.
The defendants were prosecuted, among other things, for falsification of official documents, squandering of public funds, granting of undue advantages, misappropriation of land from its agricultural vocation.
