ALGIERS- The Court of Algiers upheld, on Tuesday, the verdict pronounced in first instance against Saïd Bouteflika, former adviser to the late former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, i.e. a sentence of 8 years in prison, in the case of hidden financing of the 2019 presidential election campaign.
The verdict of the first instance (4 years in prison) pronounced by the Economic and Financial Criminal Pole of the Tribunal of Sidi M’hamed (Algiers) against the former businessman Ali Haddad was also confirmed.
The seizure of Saïd Bouteflika’s property inherited from his mother and his brother Mustapha has been lifted.
Saïd Bouteflika and Ali Haddad are prosecuted, in this case, for “money laundering, influence peddling, and failure to declare assets”.
