ALGIERS- Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ramtane Lamamra declared, today, Sunday, that Algerian diplomacy “is practicing a policy based on principles and commitment through its participation in various international organizations and forums, such as; the summit of the League of Arab States and the African Union”, adding that Algeria “is deploying all efforts to guarantee the success of the upcoming Arab Summit, slated for November 01-02, 2022 in Algiers.

In this vein, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra indicated that “Algeria respects the independence of others and supports the principle of equality between peoples and their right to dispose of their own affairs”, rejecting, in the strongest terms, the interference in the internal affairs of others.

He further noted that “the essence of our country’s diplomacy is its unwavering and full support for just causes, such as; the Palestinian and the Western Sahara causes. He referred to Algeria’s full support to the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to establishing an independent State with Al-Quds as its capital, through the implementation of international resolutions and the rejection of a fait accompli policy.

As for Western Sahara, Algeria, the same official highlighted, calls for completing the process of decolonization of Western Sahara, in the light of the continued efforts of the United Nations under the leadership of the personal representative of the Secretary-General, Staffan de Mistura to bring the parties to the conflict, two Member States of the African Union (AU), namely; the Kingdom of Morocco and the Sahrawi and Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), to continue direct negotiations with a view to reaching a long-lasting, equitable and acceptable solution for both parties, a solution that guarantees the inalienable and imprescriptible right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence.

He broached the main foundations of the Algerian approach in resolving disagreements and conflicts, saying that “Algerian diplomacy attaches a particular interest to the promotion of cooperation, partnership and integration within all foras.”

UN SG Guterres hails Algeria’s exceptional contribution to multilateral global diplomacy:

Earlier at the end of his participation in the work of the high-level segment of the 77th General Assembly (GA) of the United Nations (UN), held in New York, the head of Algerian diplomacy held a working session with the SG of the UN, Mr. Antonio Guterres who confirmed his presence at the Algiers’ Arab Summit, slated for November 1 and 2, hailing Algeria’s “exceptional” contribution to the multilateral global diplomacy.

In this context, the Secretary-General hailed Algeria’s “exceptional contribution to the United Nations and the multilateral global diplomacy, in the service of the objectives of peace and stability and for the settlement of conflicts by peaceful means and the promotion of friendly relations between countries”.
