Algeria-Germany pay heed to expansion of ties in energy sphere

ALGIERS-The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab received, Wednesday in Algiers, the CEO of the German company Wintershall Dea AG, Mario Mehren, with whom he discussed the enhancement of cooperation and partnership relations in the upstream oil and gas, the ministry said in a statement.

“While welcoming the excellence and solidity of the cooperation relations uniting Sontrach and Wintershall, the talks focused on the development and strengthening of cooperation and partnership relations in the upstream oil and gas sector in Algeria, as well as training, transfer of technology and know-how”, specified the same source.

In addition to the results of the meetings between the managers of Wintershall and Sonatrach, Alnaft and the ARH, the two managers discussed the opportunities for investment and cooperation in the field of development and transport of hydrogen, as well as carbon capture and storage (ccs) as well as renewable energies, added the press release.

Mr. Mehren, on this occasion, underlined that the discussions were “very fruitful”, and that “Algeria is a partner of choice for a reinforced energy partnership”.

He also expressed the “willingness and commitment of Wintershall to strengthen its presence in Algeria through the realization of new energy projects”, according to the press release.
