Mexico City (Mexico) – The Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez reaffirmed, in a press conference, full support for the Sahrawi people and their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
The Mexican President highlighted in the press conference by saying, “we are pursuing the same policy to support peoples’ right to self-determination and that Mexico has recognized the Sahrawi Arab Republic since 1979.”
In response to a direct question, Manuel Lopez confirmed his strong support for the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, and highlighted by saying “it is a state policy that has been expressed since the seventies of the last century and it will continue over time”.
It should be noted that Mexico maintains historical diplomatic relations with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, and the Sahrawi embassy in Mexico is one of the most important embassies in the region. Also the Mexican support for self-determination of the Saharawi people is a position adopted by the successive governments and parties in power in this country.
